Chris & Lydia’s Relaxed Summer Wedding at Rockbeare Manor
If you’re searching for an elegant countryside wedding venue in Devon, Rockbeare Manor has to be one of my absolute favourites. Nestled just outside Exeter, this stunning venue offers everything you could wish for—beautifully designed interiors, a bright and airy ceremony space, and breathtaking views across the rolling countryside.
One of the standout features of Rockbeare Manor is its spacious “getting ready” rooms for both the bride and groom. There’s plenty of natural light, which is perfect for photography, and the bridal suite even boasts a gorgeous balcony overlooking the grounds—an ideal spot for relaxed group photos and those quiet, anticipatory moments before the ceremony.
A Joyful Day, Rain and All
Chris and Lydia’s summer wedding at Rockbeare Manor was full of fun, laughter, and genuine emotion. Although the British weather decided not to cooperate (with rain that just wouldn’t stop!), it didn’t take away from the magic of their day.
In fact, there’s a lovely saying that rain on your wedding day is a sign of blessing—and this day certainly felt full of them.
The beauty of Rockbeare Manor is that even when the weather turns, the venue offers plenty of space indoors to comfortably host all your guests without feeling crowded. It’s the perfect balance of elegance and practicality.
Morning Preparations
I started the day with Chris and his groomsmen, who were in great spirits—relaxed, joking, and clearly excited for what was ahead. It’s always a pleasure to capture those natural, behind-the-scenes moments as the day begins.
From there, I joined Lydia and her bridesmaids. The energy in the bridal suite was incredible—full of laughter, excitement, and a few happy tears. The balcony gave us a fantastic opportunity for some beautiful group photos, with the Devon countryside stretching out behind them.
Emotional Moments & Natural Photography
One of the most touching parts of the day was Lydia’s first look with her dad—such a genuine and emotional moment. The ceremony itself was equally heartfelt, set in Rockbeare Manor’s stunning, light-filled ceremony space.
Despite the rain, we managed to step outside briefly for some couple portraits. Rather than anything posed or staged, I simply let Chris and Lydia interact naturally. My approach is always to capture real, emotive, and authentic moments—nothing forced, nothing awkward, just the two of them being themselves.
Having already met for a pre-wedding (engagement) shoot, they felt completely comfortable in front of the camera, which made such a difference. It allowed me to document their connection in a relaxed and natural way.
A Sparkling Finish
The day ended on a high with a beautiful sparkler exit—always such a fun and magical way to finish a wedding. Surrounded by their friends and family, Chris and Lydia’s joy was unmistakable.
Final Thoughts
Rain or shine, Chris and Lydia’s wedding was a perfect reminder that it’s not the weather that makes a wedding day special—it’s the people, the atmosphere, and the moments you share.
Rockbeare Manor continues to be one of my favourite Devon wedding venues, offering elegance, space, and stunning surroundings no matter the season.
